How large is the space at Lone Star Park? Also, what type of surface?

Thanks!

I don't know the specifics on size. It is a large lot.  Certainly larger than TMS. There are light poles, although not a tremendous amount. I and some of the other local autocross chairs are going to meet with them  to work on logistics.  Availability and placement of restroooms  for example.

Addl info on season scheduling..

RE: other area locations,  another place that was considered was the new Cowboy Stadium. The pricing for that locale went UPWARD from really expensive (3K per day) to  REALLY REALLY expensive so it is not an option currently.  Lone Star park  (under new management) went from REALLY REALLY EXPENSIVE  at 5K per day to approx 1/3 of that which is in line with TMS.

TMS is favored this year in the schedule, and Mineral Wells is less featured.

The LSC autocross committee members checked the attendance of all of the major North TX autocross groups for  all events in 2009 and this  market research yielded that TMS has the best attendance figures, and Mineral Wells has the lowest.  It was interesting to note that this was consistent across four to five different autocross organizations, and  nearly irrespective of how many events each group ran at the different locations.

Pennington Field also has good attendance figures, however that location is consistently available on Sundays, and Saturdays are hit and miss, so it is not in our schedule.

LaGrave Field was removed from the schedule due to the inability of the organizer(s) there to consistently follow through on events.  Those that have attended events there in the past may  recall issues with random parked vehicles/dumpsters on the lot, restrooms not always available, and the location being double or even triple booked, causing cancellations/rescheduling issues.

Finally, this year's  LSC schedule was set up with cooperation among several of the major autocross groups locally in an attempt to reduce conflicts between events. There are many very dedicated autocrossers that run events with several clubs each month, and hopefully this year there will be fewer  conflicts between organizations. I think that benefits all involved.   Clearly, there will be conflicts of course, as there are only so many weekends in a month, and months with  more than one holidays really limit the available event  dates.

Neat.

Are we in the big lot at the bottom?

BTW: Appreciative that you getting this out so early (and all the work that must have gone into it). The wife and I have a rule that whoever puts something on the calendar first, that's who "wins" what the plans are that day. Looks like I won all of these days.

thanks for posting the photo!  Yes..  the lot at center at the bottom is what we are aiming for.  The two sectioned off areas above that likely would still be used for events at Lone Star park.  I imagine we would need to create a paddock area within the lot.

Today representatives from SCCA, LSC, NTAXS, and ER met with Lone Star park.  We were able to check out the location and appears that this will be a good location. The folks at Lone Star park are very flexible and we are actually able to use ALL of the center lot shown in the photo, including the two trapezoidal lots above it,  and even the valet lot to the right  if/as needed.   The large center (AKA general) lot has some rough choppy  locations of uneven pavement  that will need to be avoided  but otherwise the surface is a rough but grippy aggregate similar to Mineral Wells but without all the gravel.

I am definitely looking forward to running an event there!

As far as amenities, there is a Starbucks at I-30 and Beltline on the SE corner, and on the SW side there is a burger king, subway, and a Popeyes.  Further down Beltline near Main Street/Division/180  there is a Wendy's, McDonalds, Schlotzkys and some other restaurants, so food is near by.  There are several gas stations in the area just north of I-30 on beltline (Chevron, Race Trac, etc).

Looking forward to Lone Star Park; a fair bit longer drive for me but no biggy.

I'm going to miss Mineral Wells, but if LSP is as open as folks say without the gravel might be a good compromise.

I hope this year is a transition period, with 2011 getting more LSP openings.  TMS is a great facility, good surface, small lot, and one thing I've always liked about BMW autocross was how the courses were always a good mix of technical and speed.

See y'all at Speedzone!
