1/4/2026 (Sun) 10:00a-11:30a Cars and Friends Mid-Cities: Club Host : Ricardo Negron, Theme: Bring a Friend for a Fresh Start in 2026 Grab a coffee and a muffin and hang out with other enthusiasts’ friends. No need to RSVP, no need to wash your car, just show up. Location – Shipley’s Donuts/Starbucks, 6417 Precinct Line Rd, North Richland Hills, TX 76182. Parking will be at 6413 Precinct Line Road, North Richland Hills, Tx 76182, which is the parking lot for the closed Steak & Shake building. 

1/11/2026 (Sun) 10:00a-11:30a Cars and Friends Carrollton: Club Host: Phil Adkins, Theme: Bring a Friend for a Fresh Start in 2026. Indulge your passion for cars and camaraderie at our Monthly Cars and Friends gathering, hosted at The Human Bean Café on 2661 Midway Road, Carrollton, Texas. Parking will be behind the Café. Come on over and join us as we line up for our impressive rides in the parking lot behind the Café.

BMW CCA National 01/24-01/25 (Sat-Sun): Rolex 24. BMW CCA has a Corral at the Rolex 24 in Daytona, FL if you need a sunny get-away.  See the National web site for more details.

02/07(Sat): Decatur: We’ll start or end in Decatur and enjoy a meal at Sweetie Pie Ribeye.  We could look at more of an afternoon start if there is interest in a dinner vs a lunch.  Obviously weather will affect the availability of this drive.

03/28 (Sat): Frisco to Van Alstyne: Train Day.  We’ll start at the Museum of the American Railroad in Frisco and then head north and visit a private scale-model train (that you can ride) at Bucksnort Northern Railroad.

04/04 (Sat): Cranfills Gap. Easter weekend, we typically get great weather and a trip down to Cranfills Gap sounds like fun.  We’ll visit the Horny Toad Bar & Grill for lunch.

04/11 (Sat): Blue Bonnet. We’ll attempt to have a blue bonnet tour in earlier April and see if they are out.  This date may adjust due to weather or the availability of the blue bonnets.

05/16 (Sat): Taking a trip to Pittsburg. (Texas, that is).  We’ll make a journey out East and stop in Pittsburg, TX and the return home.

5/23 (Sat): High Performance Driver’s Education at Cresson.  We’ll have the opportunity for a 1-day Track Day in Cresson.  Get your car ready to run at high speeds.  This event is great for new drivers and experienced drivers.  For those new to the event, driving on track has its own rules to keep everyone safe and you will get to join a group of like-minded individuals running around, learning about your limits of you and your car.  Watch for our signup link in a monthly email notification.

5/28-5/31 (Thu-Sun): Tentative Texas Roundel Roundup date.  Mark your calendars to join fellow BMW CCA members in our region for a Texas-sized get together.  We’ll get to spend time socializing with each other, travel some interesting roads and eat at some interesting places.  You never know if you might be roping a cow along the way or not.

Thinking about changing our annual trip to the hill country from rainy March to middle of June.  I’m thinking we can have our green grass, less rain and less motorcycles than if we tried for early April. This trip may change if the Texas Roundel Roundup goes to Fredericksburg.

7/11 (Sat): American Freedom Museum near Tyler. Celebrating 250 years of US independence, we will head out and see one of the military-oriented museums near Tyler, TX.

BMW CCA National: 7/17-7/19: Pittsburg Vintage Grand Prix

8/8 (Sat): Denton to Sherman. Trip from Denton, TX north toward Valley View and then over East toward Sherman.  We should be able to run FM 697 to get to Sherman and then stop at The Post Restaurant

BMW CCA National: 8/13-8/15 (Thu-Sat): Legends of the Autobahn. This is in Monterey, CA and ties in with Monterey Car Week.

9/5 (Sat): Muenster, TX. We’ll travel across the Taovaya Bridge and enter Oklahoma briefly.  While Nocona lost Horton’s Car Museum, we’ll head into Muenster and have lunch at Rohmer’s Restaurant.

BMW CCA National: 9/21-9/30 (Mon-Wed): BMW CCA Cruise.  European Rendezvous – the Ultimate Cruise Experience. Planned start in Budapest to Munich. Danube River Cruise, BMW Welt, BMW Museum and BMW Group Classic.

10/10 (Sat): Palestine. Plans for a trip out to Palestine, TX, most likely starting from Buc-ee’s in Terrell.

Tentative 10/16-10/29 (Fri-Mon): Museum of American Speed in Lincoln, NE. Before I make plans, would anyone want to take a trip up toward Nebraska, enjoy a cars & coffee event at Speedway Motors, visit the Museum of American Speed and then Sunday, drive the Loess Hills National Scenic Byway toward Sioux City and then head back?

11/14 (Sat): Possum Kingdom Lake and Mary’s Cafe. We’ll shoot to have a trip out toward Possum Kingdom Lake and enjoy some roads as we end at Mary’s Cafe in Strawn, TX.

12/5 (Sat): Toy Run. In annual tradition, we’ll have a toy run and enjoy some roads and then some food.

Welcome to the updated (2/19/2024) 2024 calendar of events (we added our Autocross schedule).  This year, the tour group has a Courthouse theme where we will attempt to stop (briefly for a photo) at a number of the 254 County Courthouses in Texas.

2/24 (Saturday): Dallas County Courthouse to Rockwall, Kaufman and Van Zandt (Canton) Tour.  Starting at 9:00a, we’ll travel from The Old Red Courthouse (100 S Houston St, Dallas, TX 75202), parking in front or on the Dealey Plaza side of the street.  From there, we will travel Main St and head toward Rockwall County Courthouse, then to Kaufman and end in Van Zandt County (Canton, TX). 

3/3 (Sunday): Coffee and Friends at The Human Bean Lewisville.

3/10 (Sunday): Coffee and Friends at The Human Bean Carrollton.

3/15-17 (Friday-Sunday): Twisted Sisters Tour.  Make plans to join us on our annual Twisted Sisters destination but this year, we’ll add quite a few court houses to see along the way.  For our overnight stay, we will be staying at the Inn of the Hills in Kerrville, TX.  Our rate per night will be $129 + Tax and will be available until 2 weeks before we arrive.  For those not familiar, the Twisted Sisters refers to Rural Route 337, 335 and 336 near Leakey, TX.  There are more roads around Leakey that can be added to the Twisted Sisters nomenclature but they are all pretty fun. 

3/17 (Sunday): AutoX #1 9:00a-4:00p @ Lone Star Park.  Autocross (AutoX) is a low-speed obstacle course pitting you against your friends for the Fastest Time of the Day. We have multiple classes based on your car, any modifications and horsepower. All makes are welcome to participate and it’s a great way to learn how your car handles on various conditions. Watch for a registration like about 4 weeks prior to each event. Typically you get 5 runs in the morning and 5 runs in the afternoon, but that is dependent on weather conditions.

4/7 (Sunday): Coffee and Friends at The Human Bean Lewisville.

4/13 or 4/14 (Sat/Sun): Bluebonnet Tour. J.O. will help lead the group through two counties, Ellis and Navarro, while stopping to see the Blue Bonnets along the way.  This is a very low-speed event with lots of opportunity to stop and take some pictures along the way.  J.O.’s preference is to do the drive on Saturday, 4/13 (updated 2/19/2024), but we will see how the weather holds up for this.  To start our tour, we will meet at 9:00 a.m. at the Ellis County District Courthouse in Waxahachie, Texas 75165 to take pictures of the Historic building. Then we will proceed to Palmer, Tx. After the Blue Bonnet drive, we will regroup at Buc-ee’s to drive to the Navarro County Courthouse in Corsicana, Texas 75110 to take pictures of another Historic building. Located at 300 W 3rd Ave., Corsicana, Tx. We will have lunch at the Corcina Azteca Mexican Restaurant, 122 W 3rd Ave., Corsicana, Texas.

Starting from the Old Collin County Courthouse (111 N Tennessee St, McKinney, TX 75069) at 9:00a, we’ll travel out to Fannin County (Bonham), then Lamar (Paris, TX), Delta (Cooper, TX), and then end in Hunt County (Greenville).  We’ll stop along the way for lunch but this will take a little longer than 3 hours to finish.

7/3-7/7 (Wed-Sun): Trip to Colorado Tour (Tentative).  The tour group is planning to escape the heat of the Texas summer (if possible) this year with a 5-day trip out of town.  We’ll plan to make a stop in Amarillo and see TEXAS! The outdoor musical, then travel toward Breckinridge, where will be based for 2 nights.  Then we’ll travel to Steamboat Springs on Day 3, Taos, NM for the end of Day 4 and return to Texas for Day 5.  Due to the distances, we will not plan on stopping at any Courthouses along the way at this time.

8/26 (Sunday): Coffee and Friends at The Human Bean Carrollton.

9/7-9/8 (Sat-Sun): Middle of the State Courthouse Tour. 8/6/2024 Update: We’ll have 2 options for the moment. Option 1 – Single Day trip; Option 2: Overnight in San Angelo.

For both options, we’ll start in Cleburne, TX and then head West: Johnson (Cleburne), Somervell (Glen Rose), Erath (Stephenville), Comanche.

Option 1 will then turn South to Mill County (Goldwaithe) where we will have lunch at Southside Tavern, then we will stop at Hamilton, Bosque (Meridian) and Hill Counties (Hillsboro). Hillsboro will then be a jumping off place to stop a Buc-ees and then head back to Dallas or Fort Worth (35W or 35E).

Option 2 will continue west to Brown (Brownwood), Coleman, Runnels (Ballinger), Tom Green (San Angelo), Concho (Paint Rock), McCulloch (Brady), the “Center of Texas”, San Saba, Mills (Goldwaite), Hamilton, Bosque (Meridian), Hill County (Hillsboro). This option (please tell me if you want to do this one) will stop in San Angelo for an overnight. After lunch in Brownwood, we’ll visit Brown County Museum of History and the jail. 

9/29 (Sunday): AutoX #5 9:00a – 4;00p @ Lone Star Park.  Autocross (AutoX) is a low-speed obstacle course pitting you against your friends for the Fastest Time of the Day. We have multiple classes based on your car, any modifications and horsepower. 10/26 (Sat): Mansfield to Waco and East Tour.  We’ll start in Mansfield, TX (QuikTrip 1590 E Broad St, Mansfield, TX 76063) around 9:00a and then head South toward Waco and then East, hitting Hill County (Hillsboro), McLennan (Waco), Limestone (Groesbeck) and Freestone (Fairfield and I-45).

10/26 (Sat), 10a-12p: Ted’s Garage. Join us for Ted’s Garage Tour to see all his classic cars (Lucas, Texas).  The club will cater Deluxe Box lunches + water/sodas for members from Jason’s Deli in Murphy, TX.  If anyone would like to lead a short tour afterwards, let me know. RSVP is required by Tuesday, October 22nd to jojylmiller@aol.com, so I have an idea how many box lunches to order.

11/2 (Sat): Terrell to Palestine and Others Tour. Starting from Buc-ees in Terrell, we’ll stop at the Kaufman, Handerson (Athens), Anderson (Palestine), Cherokee (Rusk) and Smith (Tyler) County Courthouses.  We’ll have lunch in Tyler and then a different way back home – hopefully we’ll see some color along the way. 

11/16 (Saturday): AutoX #7 9:00a – 4;00p @ Lone Star Park.  Autocross (AutoX) is a low-speed obstacle course pitting you against your friends for the Fastest Time of the Day. We have multiple classes based on your car, any modifications and horsepower. 12/7 (Sat): Falls Leaves (Weather toward Eastland) Tour.  We’ll start at the Parker County Courthouse (PNC Bank 102 N Main St, Weatherford, TX 76086) at 9:00a and then head West – Palo Pinto, Young (Graham), Stephens (Breckenridge) and then end in Eastland County.  That area typically has fun roads and maybe there will still be leaves on the trees.

12/19 (Thu): Christmas Lights Tour.  Watch our announcement for what our Christmas Lights destination will be – this has been the Interlochen Neighborhood in Arlington, the Deerfield Neighborhood in Plano, Texas Motor Speedway Lights or we can look at a few other options.  After looking at lights, we like to have dinner together and enjoy the holidays. 

January 15^th (Sunday) – Grapevine to Waxahachie & Rockett Café Tour: Join us for an afternoon trip through the center of the Metroplex, into the country side and then back toward civilization and ending in Rockett Café near Waxahachie.  We’ll start from the Texaco Gas station in Grapevine located at 1001 Northwest Hwy, Grapevine, TX 76051 at 2:00p.  We should arrive at Rockett about 5:00p.  RSVP to tours@lscbmwcca.org by Friday at 5:00p, January 13^th, 2023 to let us know you are coming.

January 21^st 6:30p-9:30p: Post-Holiday Party. Join us for our annual Post-Holiday Dinner and Social event at Saltgrass Steak House, 1813 Hwy 121, Bedford, TX 76021.  Meal selection will be made from a selected list of regular menu items. We will be able to accommodate up to 50 registrations REGISTRATION CLOSES: Wednesday, January 18th at 11:59PM.  J.O. has received a number of special prizes from our local BMW dealers (Sewell BMW of Grapevine, Sewell BMW of Plano, BMW of Tyler, Autobahn BMW of Fort Worth, BMW of Arlington) and a few prizes from some independent shops.

February 4^th 10:30a Cars and Donuts – Grab a coffee and a donut, and hang out with BMW friends, join us. No need to RSVP, no need to wash your car, just show up. Location – Dunkin’ Donuts by Kroger on Legacy and Independence in Plano (7212 Independence Pkwy Ste B, Plano, TX 75025)

February 12^th, 2:00p-4:00p Board meeting at Ford’s in Plano.  All members are welcome to join the board in discussion of chapter activities and planning.  We will discuss upcoming events and results of past events.  Email secretary@lscbmwcca.org if you can participate or have questions.

February 17^th – 19^th (Friday-Sunday) Corpus Christi Trip Let’s take a trip down to Corpus Christi and visit the USS Lexington and explore Port Aransas and the local sites.  This is a trip we have not taken before.  We’ll plan a two-night stay in Corpus Christi at the Holiday Inn Corpus Christi Downtown Marina ($331.67 for a 2 Queen-bed room (tax included)) and then a return to DFW.  Please email tours@lscbmwcca.org for a reservation number that you will then use to add your name and credit card number to the group reservation.  7 rooms are available until February 10th. Budget about $800 for the trip.

March 17^th-19^th (Friday-Sunday) – Return to the Twisted Sisters.  We’re planning to head back down to the twisted sisters in the hill country.  This year, after lunch, we’ll head to Lyndon B. Johnson National Historic Park for a visit and then maybe stop at Luckenbach.  We’ll be based out of Kerrville at the Inn of the Hills(830-895-5000 or https://res.windsurfercrs.com/ibe/details.aspx?propertyid=16590&nights=1&checkin=3/17/2023&group=2303LONEST&lang=en-us).  Room rates are $119 standard King and Queen, Queen room – single= $129 double, $139 triple, $149 quad per night and does not include taxes or breakfast ($11.95 additional at the time of reservation, $12.95 at check in).  Please make your reservations before March 10^th, 2023.  Budget about $800 for the trip. April 8^th (Saturday, Easter Weekend) Annual Ennis Blue Bonnet Tour starting at 10:00 a.m. meet in Palmer, Texas (1639 N I-45, Palmer, TX 75152).  We’ll enjoy a very low speed caravan around the Ennis, TX area to look at Bluebonnets.  J.O. May 27th (Saturday) – May 28th (Sunday) Spring HPDE and Time Trials. Come join the Lone Star Chapter BMW Car Club of America for a weekend of fun at the Motorsport Ranch in Cresson, TX. June 24^th (Saturday): Bridgeport Northwest OHV Offroad. Want to do a few easy off-road things with your X-vehicle (with X-drive) or just want to join a group to try the off-road adventure (ie, non-BMWs)? We’re planning a trip to the Bridgeport OHV Park 9:30a. Anyone is welcome to join but there are few things to note: 1. You will need to have an OHV (Off-Highway Vehicle) sticker ($20 at the gate or at a local power-sports dealer that sell ATVs), 2. You must pre-purchase a reservation from the City of Bridgeport at https://bridgeport.recdesk.com/Community/Page?pageId=19662 – $25.00 for a vehicle, $15 for an ATV or a Bike. 3. We will only do a green (or single diamond) route as most of our vehicles are not ready for any of the more difficult terrain. September 2^nd (Saturday) – Gimmick Rally 2023 – we’ll bring back the Gimmick rally on Labor Day weekend this year.  We’ll look north easterly for our route and end in Sherman.  A Gimmick Rally is a no-pressure treasure hunt where you are looking for a fill-in-the-blank clue found along the road ways or outside of your vehicle.  This event requires at least two people to participate.  If you’d like to participate, please RSVP to tours@lscbmwcca.org by Wednesday, August 30^th so we can print up the right number of packets.

October 22^nd – 24^th (Sunday-Tuesday) Eurkea Springs Tour: We’re making plans to return to Eureka Springs, Arkansas hopefully for some fall colors.  If you’ll note, the days we are looking at will be outside of the high-volume time so we should be able to enjoy places like the Pig Trail and Boston Mountain with ease.  We’ll look into staying at the Best Western (101 East Van Buren St) as they have accommodated us well in the past.  More details to come.

November 11^th (Saturday) Veteran’s Day Tour, let’s watch the Grapevine Veteran’s Day parade (10:00a in Historic Downtown Grapevine) – let’s park at First United Methodist Church of Grapevine (422 S Church St, Grapevine, TX 76051), walk over and see and watch the parade and then plan to meet to leave at 11:00a.  From there, we’ll head north toward Denton and end at Fortunata Winery in Aubrey, TX (just slightly East of Denton – https://www.fortunatawinery.com/).  Let’s plan to arrive by 2:00p and enjoy some food and fellowship (join us directly at the Winery if you’d like).  Please RSVP to tours@lscbmwcca.org by Friday, November 10^th.

Welcome to our new logo starting January 1st. We hope you have had a better 2021 than we had in 2020 with time with family and time with friends. We’ve definitely been busy in 2021 once we got vaccinated and things started to open up. We had 16 driving tours last year with 3 of them out-of-town journeys to places like Big Bend in West Texas, Eurkea Springs in Arkansas and even a big trip out East to Kentucky, South Carolina and Tennessee. Our Autocross group was active at Lone Star Park this year for a 6-event season with a Champion of Champion winner at the last race (Congratulations Blake). Our High Performance Driver’s Education events hosted 3 track days for 2021 and we had Club Racing at 2 of them, an Instructor Training School and Time Trials events. We hope to have more ready for next year. Sadly, we did not have an opportunity to run a chapter-sponsored Street Survival school. Both our Autocross and Street Survival groups are looking for a large parking lot area to host events (without curbs, trees or light poles in the middle of a race area). If you know of a place we could look at, please reach out to Franco Maras or Ben Qureshi (vp@lscbmwcca.org) to give us some ideas. This October (1st-8th) we are heading to the 50th annual Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta. This tour is a destination adventure to explore over 500 balloons participating in balloon glows, races, and mass ascensions. After the Balloon Fiesta we will head north to the laid-back charm of Taos, New Mexico. For more information on the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta https://balloonfiesta.com/. We will be leaving Dallas on Saturday, October 1st, spending the night in Lubbock, Texas, then on to Albuquerque for three nights at the Hotel Parq Central. We will spend two full days visiting numerous balloon events. On Wednesday, October 5, we’ll drive the back roads to Taos. We will be staying on the historic downtown plaza in Taos at the Hotel La Fonda de Taos. While we are leaving Taos on Friday, Oct 7th, Trinity Site National Park (site of the first atomic bomb) is open to the public on Saturday, Oct 8th (1 of the 2 times a year it is open)) south of Albuquerque. Event Descriptions Check out our Facebook events page to get the latest information about the chapter. Also, we have a Members-only Facebook page where we try to share different things that are happening to our chapter friends. Autocross: Obstacle course for your car on a closed course. You are timed from start to finish and the person with the shortest time is the “winner” in your car category. Over the course of the year, Lone Star BMW schedules 8-10 autocross events and prizes for each classification are given at the end of the season. This event is open to all makes and models. Beginners are provided an instructor to assist your first time (Email list: Autocross). Driving tours: As a group, we drive on highways and freeways. Those toward the front of the group run closer to the speed limit and those toward the back are catching up. The destinations, scenery and friendship along the way are the enjoyable aspects of a driving tour. (Email list: Driving Tours) HPDE: Learn how your car can handle the track. These events are educational and provide classroom and on-track education. (Contact: Steve Hodges) Club Racing: Bring the car out to the track and race other like-minded people. (Contact: David Tedeschi) Time Trials: Instead of having to get a full-prepped race car setup, you can run your fastest lap against others on the track but in an HPDE-style format, ie, controlled passing. Sat, 2/20: Gimmick Rally 1p-6:30p from Downtown Decatur, TX.  A Gimmick Rally is a scavenger hunt looking for the answers to clues along a pre-defined route.  We’ll set a time-limit to the event and keep us within reasonable distance of the city.  The winner is the one that answers the most Gimmicks with arrival time and check point times being the tie-breaker. Starting Point: Sweetie Pies Ribeyes (201 W Main St, Decatur, TX 76234). Arrive early if you want to have lunch there. We will end in Roanoke, TX.

Sat, 4/3 (Easter Weekend): Cranfills Gap – starting from QT in Burleson nearest to Joshua, TX (2690 SW Wilshire Blvd, Burleson, TX 76028), we’ll take our group out and drive some interesting roads to end in Cranfills Gap at the Horny Toad Bar & Grill. 

Sun 4/11 – Wed 4/14: We are working on a trip out to Big Bend National Park in West Texas, stopping in San Angelo along the way, but also enjoying the twisty road from Terlingua to Presido.  We will do a quick stop at the McDonald Observatory and explore the area – maybe even see some Marfa lights this time.  Watch your emails for more information on signing up and our plans. 

Sat, 4/17: Bluebonnet Tour 9:00a-lunch.  Starting from Shell in Palmer, TX (1639 N I-45 Palmer, TX 75152), Dennis will lead our group along the Ennis Blue Bonnet Festival route, enjoying the sites along the way.  This will be much closer to a cruise along the route to take in the beauty of nature.  If there is rain, this will move to Sun, 4/18.  Current plans define this as a brown-bag lunch option, depending on Covid restrictions.

Sun, 5/2: Dallas Marathon Show & Shine 7:30-2:30p.  The Marathon’s 50-year anniversary was moved to May 2^nd, 2020.  This will be our 5^th year showing off our cars and with BMW North America sponsoring the event.  We’d love to have you come and join in on rooting for these runners – running 13.1 miles (half) or 26.2 miles (full) is not a simple task.  Not just cheering on the runners, we’ll also walk around and enjoy parts of Deep Ellum and the Farmer’s Market. 

Sat, 5/29-Sun 5/30: Nick Papayianis Memorial Spring HPDE and Club Race at Motor Sport Ranch, Cresson.  In honor of one of our local members that passed away in 2020, we will be honoring Nick and his contributions to the Lone Star Chapter.  The Lone Star chapter is returning to our local track for another exciting weekend of learning all about our cars.  HPDE stands for High Performance Driver’s Education and that’s what we do.  The event is structured for all skill levels with in-car instructors (Covid restrictions move this to lead-follow) as you start out.  Put this on your calendar for a great Memorial-Day Weekend.

Sat, 6/12: Dangerfield State Park (East Texas).  Join the touring group for a trip out to Dangerfield State Park.  We’ll explore this East Texas idyllic park and the fun roads along the way, not to mention the camaraderie of your fellow tour participants.  We will reach Dangerfield around lunch and then head back after that.  Plan for a full day.

Sat 7/31: The tour group plans to run the Talimena scenic byway in Oklahoma for an all-day event.  We’ll head out early in the morning and reach the Queen Wilhelmina State Park around lunch time.  We’ll do some exploring and then head back home.  We’ll make a stop in Paris, TX along the way.

Sat 8/14: Caddo Lake Tour: Our trip to Caddo Lake will taking us through some twisty roads along the way. We’ll head over the border to Oil City, Louisiana and look over Caddo Lake from the East. Then we’ll circle around and have lunch on the West side of the Lake. After lunch, we’ll make an easy stop in Jefferson, TX and then head back toward Tyler. For those joining us from DFW area, the group will meet up at Buc-ee’s in Terrell, TX in the west side parking lot at 8:00a. We’ll stop at BMW of Tyler around 9:30. Sat, 9/18 – Sun 9/19: Hallet HPDE and Club Race event.  Back by popular demand, we’ll be scheduling a trip back to Jennings, OK for a few rounds at Hallet Motor Racing Circuit.  We’ll have a great group of people out to enjoy this track. 

Tues, 9/28- Sun 10/3:  Bootlegger Grand Tour.  We will have a dinner Meet and Greet on Wednesday evening (9/29) at 6:00 in Gatlinburg, TN. The 2 main drive days are Thursday and Friday (9/30 &10/1) ending in Little Switzerland, NC. Saturday (10/2) will most likely be an optional drive day leaving from and returning to Little Switzerland, NC.

Sat, 11/13: Fall Tour around Possum Kingdom Lake.  This tour will start from South of Fort Worth and head around Possum Kingdom Lake, stopping in Graham, TX for lunch.  We’ll then return back to the DFW area along a few interesting routes, looking for some fall colors and enjoying a different part of the Texas landscape. 

Sat, 11/20- Sun, 11/21: Fall HPDE and Club Race at Motor Sport Ranch, Cresson.  The Lone Star Chapter will be running a Fall High Performance Driver’s Education weekend out at Motor Sport Ranch, Cresson and we’d love to have you join us on track.  Watch for registration details. 

Sat, 12/4: Toy Run to Clark’s BBQ in Tioga.  We’ll start from Classic BMW and head north and enjoy some twisty roads with the intention to end in Tioga, TX and visit Clark’s BBQ.  Make plans to join us that Saturday morning.

Overview

The Gimmick Rally for 2020 is designed to take you through some of the country side and then lead you back into town.  You will travel through some small cities looking for clues along the way.  The clues given could be riddles or things you can find along the road side (permanent or semi-permanent, but no election signs or yard sales signs).  Some places you will need to get out of your vehicle to search out the answers.  There will be plenty of places to stop along the way to have a break.  The route will avoid all but one small section of Interstate so be patient as you travel the route – there will be people and there will be stop lights.

The route will be obvious and hopefully clear in the instructions – we are not trying to get you lost and there are no “tricks” to get you off the route.

This year’s rally will have a few more general rules – there will be a time limit to the event (1:00p-5:30p) but the end time will be based on the first car’s arrival.  Due to the time of the year, the sun may set in your eyes as you are looking for clues.  The overall route is about 125 miles and Google estimates a drive time of 2 hours and 32 minutes outside of finding the Gimmicks.  For every 10 minutes past the 4.5 hours (or after the first arrival), you will lose 1 successful gimmick from your score, maximum penalty of 5.  Teams will leave in 1 minute intervals.

Instructions

Each vehicle requires a driver and a navigator.  There are parts of the route that have people walking across the road and the driver must be aware at all times.

  Indicates routing instructions.  Follow all of these symbols accurately to remain on the appropriate route.

 Indicates a gimmick or scavenger hunt item.  This will be placed between routing instructions in the order in which they can be found.  Gimmicks, with this symbol by itself, will be found along the driving route.  Each Gimmick is worth 1 point.  Only the first instance of an answer should be used as the final single answer.

Questions that pertain to gimmick in the same location will only have one gimmick symbol.

Indicates a gimmick or scavenger hunt item that only be found by wandering slightly off-route.  For example, you:

• May be required to follow signs to a nearby attraction or designated stop
• May need to enter a park and look for a clue
• May need to drive around a small town looking for a building or a sign

There can be up-to 2 check points along the route.  The check point arrival times will used to break any ties.

Sat, 1/11: Short Tour from Sewell to Decatur for lunch at Sweetie Pie’s Ribeyes in downtown.  Starting from Sewell BMW of Grapevine at 9:00a (come early to look some of the new cars), we’ll head up north along some interesting roads and enjoy a great time together.

This event will be setup with BMW CCA Club racing, so make plans to be there early Friday, Saturday and Sunday to watch the action.

Go Kart Racing and 2019 Autocross Awards

Happy New Year!
We’re heading into 2020 and it’s almost time to get ready for an exciting new autocross season.
But first, come and join us for a fun event with indoor Go Kart racing and celebration of the 2019 Autocross award winners.

The Lone Star Chapter, in conjunction with the North Texas Bimmers Club (https://www.facebook.com/NorthTexasBimmersClub/), ///M Gruppe  (https://www.mgruppe.org/) and additional BMW-related sponsors, invite you to come out and show your old or new BMWs (or bikes) at Lone Star Park in Grand Prairie.  The plans are to have a small raffle for prizes and to enjoy the day out at the park. We have room for 365 spots – can you fill them up?

Special Considerations:

• No loud cars (we do not want to affect any horses at the Park that may result in us not being asked to return).  This could mean exhaust, burnouts or even music.
• No beer and alcohol on site
• Be respectful of others and their cars – they are proud of their car just as you are proud of your car.
