2020 Tour List and Maps

Overview

This page contains the 2020 tour list and the maps we used for the tour group.  Road conditions may have changed or destinations may no longer be present (ie, restaurant has closed or changed hands).  Enjoy our past tours or look for some ideas for your future road travels.

This list may change through out 2020.  Updated 6/4/2020 to reflect what happened so far with Covid-19 shutdowns:

Wed, 1/1: Hair of the Dog Tour 9:00a.  Ringing in the New Year, we’ll head out for a morning enjoying some twisty roads.  We’ll start out from Texas Smokehouse II (3313 S Burleson Blvd Alvarado, TX 76009) and then enjoy some of the roads along the way to Glen Rose and then onward to Del Norte Tacos in Godley.  Maps

Sat, 1/11: Short Tour from Sewell to Decatur to Waxahachie for lunch at Sweetie Pie’s Ribeyes in downtown.  Starting from Sewell BMW of Grapevine at 9:00a (come early to look some of the new cars), we’ll head up north along some interesting roads and enjoy a great time together. Due to the snow and ice, we changed our direction and went south to Waxachie and had a great lunch at the Dove’s Nest.  Original Decatur Maps; Revised Maps

Sun, 2/9: Gimmick Rally 1p-5p from Downtown Denton, TX.  A Gimmick Rally is a scavenger hunt looking for the answers to clues along a pre-defined route.  We’ll set a time-limit to the event and keep us within reasonable distance of the city.  The winner is the one that answers the most Gimmicks with arrival time being the tie-breaker.  Clues Answers

Sat, 3/7: Rockett Café Tour.  Starting from Denny’s (400 US-175 Frontage Rd, Seagoville, TX 75159) at 9:00a, we’ll head out and around and end up in Rockett, TX and Rockett Café for lunch (5790 FM 813 Waxahachie, TX 75165) Maps

Fri, 4/3-Sun 4/5: Return to the Twisted Sisters.  To change this up this year, we’re going to head a little further South away from Fredericksburg.  This year, we’ll stay in Kerrville, TX.  We should definitely get to have a preview of the Texas Blue Bonnets and enjoy the twisty roads known as the twisted sisters (RR 337, 336, 335).  Sunday, we’ll have an enjoyable return trip back to the DFW area.  This out-of-town trip typically costs about $600 for budget purposes. Sat, 4/18: Bluebonnet Tour 9:00a-lunch.  Starting from Shell in Palmer, TX (1639 N I-45 Palmer, TX 75152), Dennis will lead our group along the Ennis Blue Bonnet Festival route, enjoying the sites along the way.  This will be much closer to a cruise along the route to take in the beauty of nature.  If there is rain, this will move to Sun, 4/19. Cancelled due to Covid-19.

Sat, 5/23: Join us for a short(ish) morning drive starting from the QuikTrip in Mansfield, TX (1590 E Broad St, Mansfield, TX 76063) at 8:30a and we’ll head down and around to Zur Autobahn in Meridian for lunch. Cancelled due to Covid-19.

Fri, 6/26 – Sun, 6/28: Palestine and East Texas overnight touring.  We’re making plans to join with other Texas Chapters to have an interesting East Texas driving tour. Cancelled due to Covid-19.

New Sat, 6/13: Canfills Gap Driving Tour: Starting from QuikTrip in Weatherford (2001 S Bowie Dr, Weatherford, TX 76086), we’ll head out through Dennis, TX onward through Bluffdale and stop in Hico.  Then, we’ll run through some twisty roads and end for lunch in Cranfills Gap.  For those bringing their picnic lunch, we’ll stop at Wade Lee City Park (shady trees and distant benches).  For those wanting restaurant-food, we’ll stop at Horny Toad Bar & Grill and use the open-air, covered seating across the street. If you can join us, please RSVP to tours@lscbmwcca.org to get included in any additional communications.  We will use CB radios (primary) for this tour with test GPRS/FRS radios in-car.  Maps

New Sat, 6/27: Bridge to Oklahoma and Nacona Lunch Tour: To catch up with a few tours, we’ll have a second driving tour schedule for June.  Starting from TA (Shell-Gas) in Denton (6420 N Interstate 35, Denton, TX 76207) at 9:00a, we’ll head up to Muenster, TX, stopping for a Kolache or stopping at Fisher’s Meat Market.  Then we’ll head over the Taovayas Bridge and then circle around to Nacona, TX and stop at the Red River Pizzeria (outdoor seating or indoor) or picnic at the Mary Beckman Davis Park for lunch.  After lunch, we’ll head down and end at Buck-ee’s in Fort Worth, TX.  If you can join us, please RSVP to tours@lscbmwcca.org.  We’ll send out the waiver electronically to get signed.  We will use CB radios (primary) for this tour with test GPRS/FRS radios in-car. Sat, 7/18: Caddo Lake Tour: Our trip to Caddo Lake will taking us through some twisty roads along the way. We’ll head over the border to Oil City, Louisiana and look over Caddo Lake from the East. Then we’ll circle around and have lunch on the West side of the Lake. After lunch, we’ll make an easy stop in Jefferson, TX and then head back toward Tyler. For those joining us from DFW area, the group will meet up at Buc-ee’s in Terrell, TX in the west side parking lot at 8:00a. We’ll stop at BMW of Tyler around 9:30.  The return route will end us in Rockwall. Please email tours@lscbmwcca.org to add your name to the list.

Sat, 8/8: Half-Day Tour. Terrell to McKinney.  This trip started from Buc-ee’s in Terrell and headed north along some interesting roads to end in downtown McKinney.  Covid restrictions were still causing problems.  Maps

Thus, 9/10: Potential Tour leading up to O’fest in Palms Springs, California.

Sat, 9/12: Frisco-Sherman-Valley View. This trip takes us from Frisco and leads us to Whitewright for a break and then a lunch stop in Sherman. After lunch, we head west to Valley View where we end. Maps

Sat, 10/10: Texas Forts Trail & Perini Ranch.  We’ll take a tour along the Texas Forts Trail and explore some of our Texas history along the way. We’ll plan to visit 3 of the 12 Forts along the trail. Maps

Thu, 10/15-Sun 10/18: Fall Colors tour to Push Mountain in Arkansas.  Plan to join us for an interesting new destination along Push Mountain in Arkansas.  We’ll see some fall colors and enjoy some twisty roads.

Sun, 11/8: Afternoon drive from Valley View along FM 455 toward McKinney.

Sat, 12/5: Toy Run.  Start Point: Classic BMW (6800 Dallas Pkwy, Plano, TX 75024) @ 10:00a. Trip Duration: ~2 hours. End Point: Downtown Denton (https://www.lsaburger.com/)

Wed, 12/16: Christmas Lights tour and dinner.  Plan to join us as we celebrate Christmas looking at different lights and then having a dinner after looking at lights. Maps
