Tire Rack Street Survival Oct 13

The school will be held on October 13 2013 at LaGrave Field in Ft. Worth, TX. Info/registration is at www.streetsurvival.org.

Tire Rack Street Survival goes beyond antiquated high-school driver education programs, which put more focus on classroom theory and parallel parking rather than controlling a two-ton vehicle at speed.

The primary emphasis of the Tire Rack Street Survival program is a “hands-on” driving experience in real-world situations! We use your own car to teach you about its handling limits and how you can control them.

The students will become more observant of the traffic situation they find themselves in. They will learn to look far enough ahead to anticipate unwise actions of other drivers. As the students master the application of physics to drive their cars, they will make fewer unwise driving actions themselves. They will understand why they should always wear their own seatbelts, and why they should insist that their passengers wear seatbelts, too.

Up Coming Tours!!!

To all:

We have been having some interesting weekend scheduling challenges but we’re seeing the light at the end of the tunnel!!   Would everyone check their calendars for two upcoming tours?

Saturday, Oct 5th – We’d like to gather in Cleburne at our favorite Home Depot parking lot on hwy 67 at 1:45 pm for a short drivers’ meeting and a 2pm departure.

Our destination will be a 5:30 pm dinner reservation on the west side of DFW.  More details on that in the next couple of days when we work out the reservation details.

Saturday, Nov 16th – We’d like to gather in Crandall at the Cotton Gin Restaurant on hwy 175 at 1:45pm for a drivers’ meeting with a 2 pm departure.

Our destination will be back to my home town of Mineola for Saturday night dinner at Kitchen’s Hardware Store!  We’ll see if we can line up the tables in the Hardware Store again for that extra bit of ambiance that Kitchen’s is so well known for!

At both dinners, we’ll be discussing potential destinations for a bigger Spring Tour.

And, as always, if you can rsvp to us with a headcount in your party, it helps us accommodate everyone with the dinner reservations!

Lone Star Chapter BMWCCA Night AutoX!
Saturday, September 14th, 2013

Limited to the first 35 cars registered!

Our intent is to have drivers do at least 5 runs in the daylight session so that they can familiarize themselves with the course… With 15-20 drivers and a course time of about 50-60 seconds. Ideally, drivers should also be able to get at least 4-5 runs at night.

3:00 Course Setup
3:30 Tech Inspection Opens
4:30 Driver’s Meeting
5:00 First Car Off – Group 1 – 55 mins
6:00 First Car Off – Group 2 – 55 mins

The dinner break is a chance to enjoy the Texas summer sunset, grill, cook out, and socialize in a way that we just don’t normally do at most autocross events since everyone will be taking a break at the same time! Food can be cooked on site, or brought back from any of the restaurants in town.

8:05 PM first car off – group 1 -55 mins
9:05 PM first car off -group 2 -55 mins

Most drivers have the best results by driving with headlights OFF and parking lights and foglights ON… E36s and E46s do this well..

Tejas Chapter – ALMS at Circuit of the Americas BMW Corral

Image

Let’s support the Tejas chapter and join our fellow BMW enthusiast at the ALMS event.

During the ALMS event at Circuit of the Americas on September 20-22, Tejas Chapter will be hosting an official BMW Car Corral on behalf of BMW CCA, sponsored by BMW NA.

We will have a 30′ x 30′ white tent, approximately 20 chairs and 4 tables, and a video setup that will display the same programming as the Jumbo-Tron near the main entrance.

COTA is also offering a reduced-price ticket and parking package for those 3 days for $139 per person that will include:

  • a ticket holder & lanyard
  • close-in parking
  • reserved grandstand seats
  • a group photographer
  • pit walk
  • a select number of “hot laps” on the circuit itself for purchasers of the package

We will have club information on hand, including flyers on the club itself and membership benefits, the BMW CCA Foundation, and their Street Survival Course.

Volunteers are needed from those who purchase the Corral ticket package to staff the tent and greet visitors, which will include representatives from BMW CCA National and BMW of North America, along with numerous club members from across the country. This is our chapter’s opportunity to put a face on the BMW CCA and Tejas Chapter for this event, and everyone’s help will be most appreciated. We anticipate that with enough volunteers across the 3 days, it won’t involve more than a few hours’ time working in the tent, but all volunteers must be event ticketholders.

  • To volunteer to help during the weekend, contact Alan Greene at a_greene@satx.rr.com
  • A poster about the event is here
  • To purchase tickets go here – The password for the group is Bimmer
