Q1-2016 DBR Newsletter is ready!

We have complete our First Quarter 2016 newsletter.

Q1-2016 Cover

Nerces has joined the editing team.  We’d love to get more articles in the newsletter and you can help by sending your articles to Nerces.

Next quarter, we are looking for articles about:

  • Insurance information about your cars (suggested talking to a Liberty Mutual insurance guy locally to cover what a CCA member gets differently)
    • Multiple cars, pleasure vehicles, discounts, (non-daily driver)
  • Tours:
    • Review of Fredericksburg and 2 1/2-day tours (any one want to write up their perspective of the trip?)
  • HPDE – COTA
    • Maybe this is the main feature;
    • Club Racing
    • What is covered in an HPDE event.
    • History of Trifecta
    • Why do this? It’s fun… (do you have a story to tell?  Share it with us)
    • COTA history/why so important?
  • Auto Cross
    • What is it, how is it scored, what’s the competition?
    • How is it run
    • The competition: maybe take 3-4 people and follow them through the season
  • 100 year BMW anniversary
    • History
    • US history part
    • Any trips you took to a BMW national event – share them.
  • 2002 event from: March 19

Tour Update: Added February 1/2 Day Tour + Changed Dates for Fredericksburg

New: February 20th 1/2 day tour
We’ve added a new tour day (weather permitting) for February 20th.  The tour will start at 1 p.m. at the Home Depot in Ceburne and doing our normal circuitous driving stuff (with a potty break or two thrown in) until 5:00pm when we would arrive at Let’s Eat.  If possible, Marc will try to arrange a parade lap for everyone around MSR in Cresson – we’ll be going right by it.

Let’s Eat has limited seating of 19.  If you are interested in attending the tour (and want to include dinner), please RSVP to Marc Leediker at marc3509@sbcglobal.net by end of business Feb 12, in order to give them an accurate head count.

Update: March 4-6th Fredericksburg
The tour dates changed due to hotel availability but Fredericksburg is ready to go.  We’ll be staying at Sunday House Inn again this year.  Judy has reserved 12 rooms (most are Kings, some are doubles) at 129.95/night.  Please call Judy at 830-997-4484 to reserve your room and tell them that the rooms are reserved under the Lone Star BMW.  She will hold the rooms until February 28th.

When you make your reservations, let Raymond Mimick know (rmimick@iname.com) and if you want to join us for a group dinner for either Friday night and/or Saturday night (last year, the group split up to different destinations).

General Plan (the routes and dining options are still being determined but we’ll keep some of the previous year’s routes):

Day 1 (Fri): We’ll start out in Cleburne and make a quick trip down to Fredericksburg arriving about 3pm.  Pit-stop schedules: Cleburne to Hico, Hico to lunch in Goldthwaite.  Goldthwaite to Llano.  Llano to Fredericksburg.  Hotel Check in, Wine Tasting tour.  Dinner at our favorite German restaurant.

Day 2 (Sat): Start out early (8a): Fast pace drive to Leakey and possibly out to Brackettville.  We’ll return between 2p-3p, depending on the distance.  Saturday night: Dinner at possibly Hilltop Cafe.

Day 3 (Sun): Return trip to DFW through possible Austin, TX stop for lunch; Last year we arrived back at 6 p.m. but if not desired, we’ll skip a trip to The Oasis in Austin.
