UPDATE Sat, June 20th: Half day tour to Whitewright, TX (sort-of) with brunch thrown in. We’ll start in McKinney at the RaceTrac at 1004 E University Dr 9 a.m. If we need to split the group into two run groups, we will use two different destinations. Primary brunch destination is Cattleman’s Cafe in Blue Ridge (Gerald scoped it out and said if we get close to 20 people, they will not be able to fit us all). The secondary destination is The Breakfast Stop in Boham. Both maps may be used tomorrow, so please bring both along with you. Raymond Mimick will be leading this tour so please let him know if you are coming along.
Maps: McKinney to Blue Ridge
Maps: McKinney to Bonham
Both routes cover a similar section of road and both will run through Whitewright for a short stop to take pictures if desired.
We have a tour to Whitewright, TX scheduled for this Saturday. If you would like to participate (and possibly claim Father’s Day as an excuse), please let Raymond Mimick (rmimick@iname.com) know you will join us (to make sure we have everyone before we start).
Below is our latest news on the touring-front:
Generally, we have about 16 cars attending our tours as of June 2015. We welcome all to join us. With this many cars, we highly recommend purchasing a 40-channel CB radio (this is different than an FRS radio) to hear about road conditions and participate in group discussions (if this is your first time, this is not required to get a taste of the road). Locally, a number of us have used Bonnie & Clyde’s off Harry Hines in Dallas. The Midland radios have worked well and if you want to only receive announcements, the handheld version will work.
Please review the Touring Etiquette so we are all on the same page.
Sat, June 20th: Half day tour to Whitewright, TX (sort-of) with brunch thrown in. We’ll start in McKinney at the RaceTrac at 1004 E University Dr 9 a.m. head up toward Sherman and stop near Whitewright (CJ’s Grand Street Cafe is closed for renovations; working on alternate in Bonham). Maps are being prepared once we know our breakfast/brunch destination. Raymond Mimick will be leading this tour so please let him know if you are coming along.
July 25th: Talimena Scenic Drive from Hugo, TX to Queen Wilhelmina State Park and back again. Book at hotel room for Friday night, 7/24 at HiWay Inn Express of Hugo (2111 E Jackson St Hugo, OK 74743 580-326-5100) and we’ll head out 8 a.m. and head to the Talimena Scenic Drive. Please let Raymond know if you can attend.
New: August 1st: (Not a tour) We will have a social event at Jack & Billie’s House in Arlington, TX in the late afternoon/early evening. More details to come.
New: August 29th: Gimmick Rally. First annual Gimmick Rally will occur but we need at minimum of 10 cars (with a driver and navigator). This Rally is a scavenger hunt and is self-paced, non-timed and street-legal. Brian George is leading the rally and pre-registration (which is letting Brian George know you want to participate) is required.
New: September 12th: Half-day tour with Lone Star Park destination around lunch time to meet up with the Auto Cross Group. More details to come.
