Eureka Springs Here We Come

This Sunday we’ll be heading out on our Fall tour to Eureka Springs.  If you are interested in joining us, the hotel has room.

Sun, Oct 11-Tues, Oct 13: Fall tour to Eureka Springs.  Our last trip in 2012, we stopped at the Crystal Bridges Museum (http://crystalbridges.org) in Bentonville, AR and we will add this to our route planning.  Please let Ray and Brian know if you will be attending this trip.

Hotel Details: For those that have attended an ’02 fest, we will be using the Best Western Eureka Inn (101 E Van Buren Eureka Springs, AR 72632) for our hotel stay.  Contact the hotel directly at 479-253-9551.  Sarah, Pam or Jed will help you reserve the room.

Maps:
Day 1: DFW to Eureka Springs (it’s a long haul)
Day 2 Morning Loop around northern AR
Day 2 Afternoon Loop for sight-seeing
Day 3 Return to DFW

Alt Day 1 with Interstate use (we will not use this unless we are just really far behind schedule)

We will be leaving the DFW from Allen Café (300 E Main St Allen, TX 75002) at about 8a on Sunday, Oct 11th.  The drive currently looks to be 8 hours and we will have lunch in Mena, AR about 1:00 p.m. or near the Talimena Scenic Byway.

New: Sunday, November 15th: Afternoon drive around East Texas with possible dinner stop along the way.  We are experimenting with some Sunday options to see if it works better/worse for our group and how the roads are – too much traffic or just right.  Let Brian know if you want to join us on this one.

Rally Estimated Schedule from Brian

From Brian George:

I am expecting the average team to take about 5.5 hours to complete the course. This is based upon 2 trial runs that have taken place stopping for all gimmicks and driving the speed limit. The driving pace will make the biggest difference on when teams complete. There will be plenty of opportunity for spirited driving if the driver so chooses. So here is my anticipated timeline for the event.

8:30 am  Driver’s Meeting and Instructions
8:45 am  First team leaves
9:00 am  Last team leaves
11:15 am  Teams begin to arrive at mid-rally checkpoint
2:30 pm  Teams begin to arrive at restaurant
4:00 pm  Late lunch and socializing concludes – teams return to DFW
5:15 pm  Teams arrive in DFW (McKinney)

This is my anticipated schedule. However, it really all depends upon the speed of the teams during the rally. If we have a team that goes slow and circles back several times to find gimmicks, it will take longer.

We are still open for more participants, if you want to join, please email Brian George (see Driving Tours page for link to his email address)

Rally Update for Saturday, August 29th

August 29th: First annual Gimmick Rally is happening this Saturday.  We are still hoping to reach 10 cars (with a driver and navigator). The Fun Run gimmick Rally is sponsored by the Lone Star Chapter of the BMW Car Club of America (LSC BMW CCA). A gimmick rally is essentially a scavenger hunt where a driver and navigator must find their way to an unknown destination using clues along the way to guide them. The route is pre-defined and handed out at the beginning of the event. Along the route, there are clues to decipher in order to “win” the rally.

The Fun Run Gimmick Rally is a self-paced, non-timed, street legal gimmick rally. The organizers of the event have covered thousands of miles choosing the route, selecting the gimmicks, and ensuring that fun will be had for drivers of all types. Prizes will be awarded for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place.

How can I participate in the fun? To participate, the driver must be a member of the BMW CCA and must pre-register. The minimum team consists of two people: a driver and a navigator. Simply email Brian George at bgeorge0049@gmail.com the names of your driver and navigator plus any other ride-along participants.

How does this differ from one of the tours that the club does? No leader, minimum of two people in each car, goal is to find the gimmicks along the pre-scribed route.

WHO: You and a navigator (if you are only 1 person, please tell Brian and we can look at teaming people up)
WHEN: 8:30 am August 29, 2015 (TIME UPDATED TO 8:30 from 9a)
WHERE: Reverchon Park in Downtown Dallas (3505 Maple Ave, Dallas, TX)
DISTANCE: 250 miles (will take us out of town)

NOTE: As of 8/25/2015, we have 6 named Cars with a driver and navigator and 3 other potential drivers/navigators from the other participants.  We will run this as a Rally.
