This page contains our organized 2015 tour list and the maps we used for the tour group.  Road conditions may have changed or destinations may no longer be present (ie, restaurant has closed or changed hands).  Enjoy our past tours or look for some ideas for your future road travels.

3/7/2015: Cars & Coffee and Springfeast Tour to East Texas

Cars & Coffee and Springfeast Tour to East Texas; Burger Company in Mineola for lunch (Marc is leading this half-day trip from Classic BMW, starting about 9a). 3/13/2015 – 3/15/2015: First Spring Driving Tour

First Spring Driving Tour – Fredricksburg
When: Friday, March 13th, 2015 to Sunday, March 15th, 2015
Where: Fredricksburg and the twisted sister roads
Departure point: Home Depot in Cleburne, 9am

Hotel: Based on some reviews from Trip Advisor, other members, we decided to try a new hotel this year: Sunday House Inn. We have reserved 12 rooms (all are Kings) at 124.95/night. It is very close to our previous hotel (Fredericksburg Inn & Suites). Please call Judy at 830-997-4484 to reserve your room. Our rooms are reserved under the Lone Star BMW CCA. She will hold the rooms until March 1st. Our weekend drive will be on the tail end of Spring Break.

General Plan (the routes and dining options are still being determined):
Day 1 (Fri): Utilizing our past tour’s routes, we’ll have a quick trip down to Fredericksburg arriving about 3pm. Pit-stop schedules: Cleburne to Hico, Hico to lunch in Goldthwaite. Goldthwaite to Llano. Llano to Fredericksburg. Hotel Check in, Wine Tasting tour. Dinner at our favorite German restaurant.

Day 2 (Sat): Start out early (8a): Fast pace drive to Leakey and possibly out to Brackettville. We’ll return between 2p-3p, depending on the distance. Saturday night: Dinner at Café at the Ridge in Kerrville, TX

Day 3 (Sun): Return trip to DFW (10a).

4/4/2015: (Easter weekend): Tour to Cranfills Gap

This weekend (April 4th), we have a half-day/three-fourths-day drive to Cranfills Gap. Route Maps are now available here. ( https://lscbmwcca.org/wp-content/uploads/2015/03/cranfills-gap-april-2015.pdf ) are starting from the Cedar Hill Library 9a Saturday. If you are joining us, let Raymond Mimick ( rmimick@iname.com ) know so we can watch for you.

(Easter weekend): Half-day trip to Cranfills Gap, Texas for a visit to the Old Rock Church (St. Olaf’s Lutheran Rock Church). Built in 1886, it is a beautiful building which is very well preserved. To get there, the drive will begin in Cedar Hill (9am back parking lot of Cedar Hill Library at 225 Cedar Street, Cedar Hill, TX 75104) and pass through 150 miles of fantastic roads with lots of great vistas, panoramic countrysides, and twisty roads. The mid-point will be Glen Rose where the tour will take a quick break for gas. In addition to Glen Rose, the tour will pass through or near Cleburne State Park, Dinosaur Valley State Park, Fossil Rim Wildlife Center, and Iredell. Lunch will be at the Horny Toad Bar and Grill in Cranfills Gap (http://www.hornytoadbar.com/index.html). Brian George is organizing the routes but let Raymond Mimick know if you will join us on this trip.

9 rooms with a King bed $119/night; 3 rooms with a King bed and a sofa bed for $124/night; Rooms will remain available until 21 days before our scheduled trip (3/20/2015). Confirmation for the group under “Raymond Mimick.” Additional rooms are possible but subject to availability.

General Schedule:
Day 1: Cleburne to San Angelo (lunch). San Angelo to Fort Stockton (dinner and first hotel)
Day 2: Fort Stockton to Big Bend; Short hike/stop at Santa Elena Canyon; Lunch in the Basin; Terlingua to Presido; Stop to see if we can see the Marfa Lights; Alpine for hotel and dinner
Day 3: Loop around Mt Livermore, visit to McDonald Observatory; Evening Star Gazing Plans at McDonald Observatory. Return to Alpine for Hotel
Day 4: Return to DFW via Pecos, possibly I-20.

4/25/2015: Germanfest celebration in Muenster

We’ll meet at The Old West Cafe in Denton for breakfast at 8 am. (1020 Dallas Drive, Denton, TX)

After breakfast, we’ll head up to Sanger and then on to Muenster, arriving about 10:30 am in Muenster. Germanfest opens at 10am and charges $10 admittance fee. (You may want to hit their website and buy your ticket online. It’s a fundraiser for the local Catholic Church) For those not wanting to partake in those festivities, you can walk the streets of Muenster, buy some local sausage, visit the historic Catholic church, and relax until we depart at 2pm to return to DFW by way of Decatur.

Please rsvp ( marc3509@sbcglobal.net ) to me by Wednesday, April 22, so we can give the Cafe an idea of how many of us for them to plan on!

5/23/2015: (Memorial Day weekend): Tour to Let’s Eat Cafe in Bluffdale

To all:
We’re moving our departure time back to 4:00 pm this afternoon and
departing from the Days Inn Motel at 590 Winscott Road in BENBROOK!
(I believe it’s off exit 429B as your heading west on I-20! Just north of I-20)

We’ll be running straight down hwy 377 to Bluffdale and then returning back the same way.

6/20/2015: Half-Day Tour to Writewright, TX

Half day tour to Whitewright, TX with brunch thrown in. We’ll start in McKinney at the RaceTrac at 1004 E University Dr 9 a.m. head up toward Sherman and stop in Whitewright (CJ’s Grand Street Cafe or other restaurant). Please let Marc Leediker know if you are going.

7/25/2015: Talimena Scenic Drive

From Hugo, TX to Queen Wilhelmina State Park and back again. Book at hotel room for Friday night, 7/24 at HiWay Inn Express of Hugo (2111 E Jackson St Hugo, OK 74743 580-326-5100) and we’ll head out 8 a.m. and head to the Talimena Scenic Drive. Please let Raymond Mimick know if you can attend.

8/29/2015: Gimmick Rally

First annual Gimmick Rally will occur but we need at minimum of 10 cars (with a driver and navigator). This Rally is a scavenger hunt and is self-paced, non-timed and street-legal. Brian George is leading the rally and pre-registration (which is letting Brian George know you want to participate) is required. bgeorge0049@gmail.com

9/12/2015: Tour to Loco Coyote Grill & Meetup with Autocross Group

Fall tour to Eureka Springs – enjoy the scenery and take an adventure out of town. Our last trip in 2012, we stopped at the Crystal Bridges Museum (http://crystalbridges.org) in Bentonville, AR and we will add this to our route planning. Please let Ray and Brian know if you will be attending this trip.

12/5/2015: Lone Star Chapter Toy Drive

We just received a call from Classic BMW. They would like for us to drop the toys off at the Main Front Entrance to Classic, off of Spring Creek Pkwy.

Repeat, drop your toys at the Main Front Entrance – the guys running the gates there have been told to let you in When You Tell Them

Annual LSC Toy Drive initiating from Classic BMW after Cars & Coffee. Bring 2 unwrapped toys (1 for a boy, 1 for a girl) and we’ll start about 10:00 am with a Vintage Car group and the Modern car group. We’ll be heading to Muenster, TX and Fischer’s Grocery Store for lunch. Please let Marc Leediker know you can join us.
